She Says

Carnivores delight. Described as a premium steakhouse, Rare is up there on our top restaurants for quality beef and meat all round. This place is popular among city slickers and business people during lunch time and it’s also a relaxed dinner venue with friends or even a date. Despite that it’s situated on King Street near Melbourne’s known dirty stripper bars and gentlemen’s clubs, it has a classy atmosphere with white clothed tables, warm lighting and attentive waiting service.
It was around 8 pm, there were 4 us and we hadn’t booked so we were extremely pleased to be seated straightaway. It was quite busy as expected for any decent restaurant in the city on a Friday night.

I was starving and could’ve eaten a whole cow. We were at the right place for meat, not just steak. There was also lamb, chicken, pork and vegetarian dishes on the menu. There’s a variety of beef cuts, from eye-fillet, porterhouse, scotch-fillet, rib-eye and the list goes on. Grain-fed, Angus and Wagyu. We ordered the 1 kg of spare pork ribs and garden salad to share and each got our own steak.
The spare pork ribs were excellent. Tender, succulent and marinated with a subtle sweet marinade. It fell of the bone. Bone lickin’ good.  Just how ribs should be.
The garden salad was fresh and lightly dressed with vinagerette. It was nothing out of the ordinary with salad leaves, cherry tomatoes, carrot, cucumber, red capsicum, and Spanish onion, according to the menu description. It did make our meaty dishes slightly healthier.
I had the 200 grams eye-fillet, ordered medium-well, but I’d say it came out more medium-rare. Oh well (not so much) but it was still tender and tasty served with a side of golden crunchy chips. Wai ordered the Rib Eye on the Bone and was pleased with its quality cut. He topped it with a creamy mushroom sauce. Our other two friends had the eye fillet as well, 300 grams. We cleaned our plates. That says it all - this steakhouse has Foodful stamp of approval.
